Three soldiers and seven vigilantes have been killed in Wanka community, Keram district of Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau State, after bandits ambushed security forces following an earlier confrontation. Residents told Daily Trust the incident occurred around 5:30 pm Friday when bandits invaded the village, shooting sporadically. Security personnel under two captains had stormed the community earlier that morning, killing several bandits who fled. However, hours later, the bandits regrouped from nearby bushes and attacked, leading to casualties on both sides. Two army captains were among the victims. Residents said the bandits were well-equipped, enabling them to confront security forces. The area, bordering Wase and Kanam LGAs, has consistently witnessed bandit attacks despite the deployment of 300 soldiers last month. The spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace could not be reached for comment.
