Thugs, allegedly linked to MC Oluomo, disrupted a BCAN event at the NUJ Secretariat in Abuja, leaving several injured and destroying property. BCAN calls for urgent intervention from President Tinubu and security agencies to hold the perpetrators accountable.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, became a scene of chaos as armed thugs disrupted the inauguration ceremony of the Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria (BCAN). The attack, allegedly carried out by supporters of Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, known as MC Oluomo, left several injured and property destroyed.
The incident occurred shortly after the departure of the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, led by Segun Aluwaye, stormed the venue armed with machetes, bottles, and other weapons. Wearing caps displaying MC Oluomo’s image, they chased out attendees, including government officials and security operatives.
BCAN Chairman, Comrade Prince Israel Ade Adeshola, condemned the attack, describing the destruction of items such as cameras, tables, and chairs as shocking. Security personnel, including police officers and operatives from the DSS and NSCDC, also sustained injuries during the mayhem.
The event aimed to address rising “one chance” crimes and maintain data on bus conductors in the Federal Capital Territory. The disruption has been labeled a significant setback to these efforts.
BCAN has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies to act swiftly, holding MC Oluomo and the perpetrators accountable.
As of press time, no arrests had been made. However, police vehicles have been stationed at the secretariat to prevent further violence.
