President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Kayode Opeifa as the new Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC). Opeifa, a former Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, is recognized for his contributions to improving Lagos' transportation system. He played a pivotal role in addressing the Apapa gridlock, earning recognition for his leadership.
Before his new role, Opeifa served as the vice-chairman of the Presidential Task Team, tackling traffic congestion at Lagos ports. His leadership in Lagos earned him a position as the Transport Secretary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he further demonstrated his expertise in managing urban transport systems.
Opeifa succeeds Ben Iloanusi, who was acting MD after Fidet Okhiria’s tenure ended in October 2024. Opeifa's appointment is seen as a well-deserved acknowledgment of his exceptional contributions to the transportation sector in both Lagos and Nigeria.
With his wealth of experience, Opeifa is expected to transform the nation’s railway system, focusing on efficiency and interconnectivity. This leadership is anticipated to foster economic growth and significantly improve the quality of life for Nigerians through an enhanced railway system. His vision for the NRC aims to propel Nigeria's railway infrastructure to new heights, making it an integral part of the country's development strategy.
