President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), subject to Senate confirmation. Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga announced the appointment, made under Section 8(1) of the CBN Act 2007. Yuguda replaces Bala Bello, who was recently appointed Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy. Yuguda previously served as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from 2020 to 2024. A Fellow of ICAN and CFA charter holder, he holds a B.Sc. in Accountancy from Ahmadu Bello University (1983) and a master's in Money, Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham (1991). He began his CBN career in 1984, served as an IMF economist (1997-2001), and retired in 2016 after six years as Director of Reserve Management.
