President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named six new Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) to lead federal government-owned hospitals, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to overhauling Nigeria’s healthcare system.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the appointments on Friday, emphasizing the government's dedication to improving medical services nationwide.

Among the newly appointed CMDs is Olusegun Sylvester Ojo, who will head the Federal Teaching Hospital in Akure, Ondo State. Also retained for a second term is Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi, the CMD of Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe.

Other appointments include Dauda Abubakar Katagum for the Federal Teaching Hospital in Azare, Bauchi State, Ikrama Hassan for the Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Ali Mohammed Ramat for the National Orthopedic Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State, and Haruna Abubakar Shehu for the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

The appointees are expected to serve four-year terms, during which they will implement policies to improve patient care and hospital administration. Tinubu congratulated them, urging them to uphold professionalism, accountability, and efficiency in their respective institutions.

These appointments align with the government’s broader efforts to address challenges in Nigeria’s healthcare sector, including access to quality medical services, infrastructure development, and improved working conditions for medical personnel.

With the appointments taking immediate effect, the newly assigned CMDs are expected to bring transformative leadership that will enhance healthcare delivery across the country.
