President Bola Tinubu arrives in Rio de Janeiro for the G20 Heads of State Summit, where leaders will address global issues like poverty, hunger, and sustainable development. Tinubu will advocate for global governance reforms and hold bilateral talks to advance Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms in agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 19th Heads of State and Government Summit of the Group of 20 (G20) on November 18-19, 2024. Hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the summit will focus on global challenges such as poverty, hunger, energy transition, and sustainable development. The Nigerian president was welcomed by Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Breno Costa, and other officials.

Tinubu, accompanied by Nigerian ministers including Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs), Hannatu Musawa (Art, Tourism, and Culture), and Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (Agriculture and Food Security), is expected to hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders. These discussions will address Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms, particularly in agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.

The summit’s theme, "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet," will also cover global governance reform, a topic Nigeria has long championed, especially with its bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. Tinubu is set to push for the reform of international institutions, aligning with Nigeria's consistent advocacy for change in global governance structures.

As part of the G20 gathering, President Tinubu’s participation will emphasize Nigeria's role in shaping a more equitable and sustainable global future, while furthering the country’s international relations and partnerships.
