He commends Fayemi’s patriotism, leadership, and dedication to national development.

President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, as he marks his 60th birthday, describing him as a trusted ally and dedicated patriot.

In a personally penned message, Tinubu reflected on their long-standing relationship, which began during Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement in the 1990s. He highlighted Fayemi’s role in advocating against military rule, particularly during General Sani Abacha’s dictatorship. According to Tinubu, Fayemi played a crucial role in the establishment of Radio Kudirat, a pro-democracy station that challenged the military regime.

Tinubu also recounted Fayemi’s political journey, from founding the Centre for Democracy and Development to contesting the 2007 Ekiti governorship election. Despite initial setbacks, Fayemi eventually reclaimed his mandate in 2010 after a legal battle. His leadership extended to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he contributed to the 2015 election victory that unseated an incumbent government.

The president further acknowledged Fayemi’s decision to step down for him during the APC’s 2023 presidential primary, calling it an act of political maturity and unity. He praised Fayemi’s contributions as a scholar, administrator, and public servant, emphasizing his impact on governance at both state and national levels.

As Fayemi turns 60, Tinubu expressed his best wishes, commending his dedication to service and the country’s democratic progress.
