President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate evacuation of residents affected by severe flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State. The flooding, which impacted areas such as Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin, was caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam, which has been at full capacity for over a week.

In a statement from Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Tinubu expressed his sympathies for those impacted by this disaster. He assured Governor Babagana Zulum of the federal government’s commitment to providing assistance to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of those affected.

The President stressed the need for swift action, urging local authorities to assess the damage and facilitate the safe evacuation of residents from the flooded areas. Additionally, he directed Vice-President Kashim Shettima to visit Maiduguri to gain firsthand knowledge of the situation.

During a conference in Abuja, Shettima confirmed that significant portions of Maiduguri have been overwhelmed by flooding. He acknowledged that this crisis is not limited to one area but is affecting multiple regions across the country, including Bayelsa and Sokoto. The administration is dedicated to addressing this crisis and supporting those in need during this difficult period.
