President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Nigerian Customs Service, as revealed by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, to return all seized grains to their owners for resale in local markets.
The directive, aimed at ensuring affordable food prices and promoting food security, was disclosed during a stakeholder meeting in Kwangwalam, Katsina State.
Emphasizing the condition that the returned items must be sold within Nigerian markets, the CGC stated that over 120 trucks of food items intended for export had been seized, contributing to a shortage in the domestic market and affecting prices.
The initiative aligns with President Tinubu's strategy to alleviate food scarcity and lower prices for the Nigerian populace.
During the visit to Daura, the CGC received the traditional title of Mabudin Hausa from the Emir, Dr Umar Farouq Umar. This move, rooted in promoting local food security, reflects a broader effort to stabilize market conditions and address the challenges posed by the scarcity of essential commodities.
