Tinubu meets FBI chief, underscores Nigeria's resolve to eliminate terrorism through cooperation, and seeks US assistance in combating international crimes.
During a high-level meeting with Christopher Asher Wray, the Director of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Tinubu emphasized the importance of international collaboration in the fight against transnational crimes and extremism.
Welcoming Wray to the State House in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted the significance of the FBI director's visit, stating, "It conveys the importance of Nigeria and Nigerian partnership in the work of America's law enforcement institutions and vice-versa." He acknowledged that Nigeria cannot achieve success in eliminating crimes without cooperation with other countries.
Tinubu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to receive the leadership of an organization renowned for its procedural sophistication and excellence over the years. He recognized the shared interest between Nigeria and the United States in combating crimes locally and globally, underscoring the need for collaboration within the West African region through his leadership as the ECOWAS Chairman.
The Nigerian President emphasized his administration's commitment to using education as a tool to fight poverty, which is often a breeding ground for extremism. He urged the US government to assist developing countries in their efforts to combat international crimes, stating, "We are working hard to eliminate terrorism, cybercrime, and sextortion."
In response, Director Wray commended Tinubu's support for growing partnerships between Nigerian agencies and the FBI in the fight against crimes. He praised the President's vision in countering terrorism in the region, describing it as a dangerous threat not only to West African nations but also to the United States.
