President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, and three executive directors, including Olaniyi Alaba Netufo, Barka Sajou, and Sa’adatu Balgore, over allegations of ₦1.2 billion fraud.
The suspension follows a comprehensive investigation that revealed disturbing financial activities within the agency. Tinubu's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed that the anti-corruption agency involved in the investigation has already recovered some of the allegedly misappropriated funds, prompting Tinubu to order a wider probe into the matter.
An interim team has been appointed to manage the agency during the investigation, with Abba Abubakar Aliyu taking over as Managing Director/CEO.
President Tinubu emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, stating his commitment to delivering good governance and qualitative service to the Nigerian people.
