President Bola Tinubu will attend Cyril Ramaphosa's inauguration in Pretoria after the ANC's historic coalition with opposition parties. Tinubu, currently in Lagos for Eid-el-Kabir, stresses deepening economic ties with South Africa. He will return to Nigeria post-ceremony.
President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the inauguration of President Cyril Ramaphosa in Pretoria, South Africa, on Tuesday. Ramaphosa secured re-election through a groundbreaking coalition between the African National Congress (ANC) and opposition parties.
This coalition followed the ANC's historic loss of its majority in the recent elections, the first such loss in 30 years since apartheid ended. The ANC formed an alliance with the Democratic Alliance (DA) and smaller parties after two weeks of intense negotiations, culminating in Ramaphosa's re-election last Friday.
Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu's special adviser on media and publicity, announced on Monday that Tinubu would leave Lagos, where he is celebrating the Eid-el-Kabir festival, to attend the inauguration.
During this meeting, Tinubu emphasized the importance of enhancing economic relations between Nigeria and South Africa, noting that both nations have the potential to significantly boost Africa's economic prospects through effective partnership. Following the inauguration ceremony, Tinubu will return to Nigeria.
