President Bola Tinubu has taken a proactive step to mediate the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State by engaging in a closed-door meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, former governor Peter Odili, and other key stakeholders at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
The meeting follows weeks of escalating tensions between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Minister Nyesom Wike. The situation reached a tipping point on December 11, when 27 members of the State House of Assembly defected from the PDP to the APC, resulting in the declaration of vacant seats.
The recent demolition of the Assembly complex and the expedited passage of the 2024 budget by a four-member loyalist-led Assembly added complexity to the situation.
Stay tuned for updates as the leaders strategize for a resolution to ease tensions in Rivers State.
