Nigeria Tinubu Honors Late COAS Lagbaja with Posthumous CFR Award

President Tinubu honored the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, with a posthumous CFR award during his burial in Abuja. Dignitaries, military officials, and family members paid tribute to his legacy, celebrating his leadership and commitment to Nigeria's security. President Bola Tinubu on Friday conferred a posthumous national honor, the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR), on the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, during a solemn burial ceremony at the National Cemetery, Abuja. The event was attended by top government officials, military brass, and other dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Defence Minister Abubakar Badaru.

The late general’s casket, draped in Nigeria’s national colors, arrived in an ambulance around 3:00 p.m., and the burial proceedings commenced shortly after. In his tribute, President Tinubu described Lagbaja as a symbol of excellence and dedication. He praised the late officer for his unparalleled service to the nation, emphasizing his intellectual brilliance and unwavering commitment to Nigeria's security.

Tinubu pledged ongoing support for Lagbaja's family and urged the military to remain resolute in combating insecurity. "To his beloved family, we owe a debt of gratitude for sharing him with the nation," the President said. He encouraged officers to honor Lagbaja’s legacy by continuing to uphold the values he championed.

Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, also lauded Lagbaja’s exemplary leadership, calling his death an irreplaceable loss to the Armed Forces. The burial concluded with a national flag presented to Lagbaja’s next of kin, symbolizing his legacy of courage and sacrifice.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja will be remembered as a patriot who gave his life in service to Nigeria.
