President Bola Tinubu has embarked on a significant three-day official visit to Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, at the invitation of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Upon his arrival, Tinubu was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Manuela Botey and received a ceremonial greeting at the airport. The visit commenced with a brief ceremony at the Presidential Palace, where the two leaders held a private meeting, focusing on key issues such as oil and gas cooperation, security, and other bilateral agreements.
This visit is expected to strengthen ties between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, particularly in the oil and gas sectors. Tinubu's delegation includes several high-profile Nigerian officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Defense Minister Abubakar Badaru, and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo. Also in attendance are Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi, Minister of Youth Development Jamila Ibrahim, and Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The business community has shown keen interest in the visit, with representation from Abdulkabir Adisa Aliu, CEO of Matrix Group, among others. The visit will conclude with Tinubu signing a historic visitors’ book and attending a state dinner hosted in his honor.
