President Tinubu emphasizes infrastructure development amid challenges, names Abuja roads after Chinua Achebe and J.P. Clark, and praises Minister Wike’s leadership.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu acknowledged that the past year has been challenging for Nigeria.

During the inauguration of engineering infrastructure in Guzape District Lot II, Abuja, he emphasized his administration's focus on people-centered development through essential infrastructure and amenities to improve citizens' quality of life. Tinubu highlighted efforts to retool and rejig the financial system to bring prosperity and relief to Nigerians.

At the event, President Tinubu announced the naming of two roads in Guzape after notable African literary figures, Chinua Achebe and J.P. Clark, following recommendations by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

He praised Wike's leadership during these trying times and reiterated the government's commitment to compensating those affected by the infrastructure projects rather than resorting to litigation.

Tinubu stated, "Minister Nyesom Wike has provided exceptional leadership at a trying time for the country. It has been a very challenging time for us in the country. We are still retooling and rejigging our financial system to bring prosperity and relief to the people of this country."

He further commended Wike for his capacity to build and lead a team and deliver on promises.

In his remarks, FCT Minister Wike explained that the contract, initially awarded in 2003 at a cost of N14 billion, was divided into Lots 1 and 2, awarded to Messrs Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company Nigeria Limited and Messrs Gilmor Engineering Limited.

The project, covering 32km of road, faced numerous litigations that did not deter its progress. Shortly before the current administration took office, the project cost was revised to N18.17 billion.

Wike emphasized the focus on people-centered development aimed at economic prosperity and benefits, urging that compensation, not litigation, should be pursued for affected parties.
