President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation, effective March 7, 2025. The decision follows a competitive selection process aimed at ensuring transparency and merit-based appointments in the federal civil service.
Ogunjimi, a seasoned accountant with over three decades of experience, was chosen from a pool of highly qualified candidates. His selection involved a multi-stage evaluation, including written assessments, ICT proficiency tests, and oral interviews. The rigorous process highlights the administration’s commitment to professionalism and excellence in public finance management.
A graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ogunjimi holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment, urging him to uphold integrity and efficiency in handling the country’s financial affairs. The outgoing Accountant-General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is set to retire on the same date Ogunjimi’s tenure begins.
With this appointment, the federal government aims to strengthen financial accountability and governance in Nigeria’s public sector.
