President Tinubu revealed he once warned Wike about his policies in Abuja, emphasizing political balance. He praised Wike’s achievements in reviving infrastructure and healthcare. Wike credited Tinubu’s support for key reforms and invited him to commission completed projects as part of the president’s second-anniversary celebrations.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that his decision to exempt the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) was influenced by a direct appeal from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
During a Sallah visit by an FCT delegation to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu acknowledged Wike’s efforts in transforming the capital city. He noted that Wike approached him with a proposal to exit the TSA, arguing that the move would allow for quicker project execution and improved governance.
The president admitted that he carefully weighed the political and economic implications before approving. According to him, the decision led to significant improvements in infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of long-neglected projects, better healthcare services, and the revitalization of abandoned government buildings.
Tinubu praised Wike for his leadership, noting that despite coming from a different political background, the minister had shown dedication to national development. He further urged Nigerians to prioritize unity and discipline in pursuit of progress.
In his remarks, Wike expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s support, stating that the reforms in the FCT, including the establishment of a civil service commission and enhanced governance structures, were made possible by the president’s bold leadership.
