President Bola Tinubu has initiated a long-anticipated cabinet reshuffle, marking a significant shift in his administration's strategy. On Wednesday, he announced the dismissal of five ministers, alongside the nomination of seven new ministers who will require Senate confirmation.
Among the new appointees, Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu has been nominated as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Nentawe Yilwatda will take on the role of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, effectively concluding the tenure of suspended minister Betta Edu. Additional nominations include Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment, Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Idi Maiha as Minister for the newly established Livestock Development Ministry, Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
The five ministers relieved of their duties are Uju-Ken Ohanenye, who served as Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, the Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, who held the position of Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim, the former Minister of Youth Development.
In his remarks, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their contributions and wished them success in their future endeavors. He urged the newly appointed and reassigned ministers to view their roles as a serious responsibility to the nation, emphasizing the administration's commitment to driving Nigeria toward sustainable growth and effective governance.
