President Bola Tinubu concluded his participation in the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference with a return to Abuja on Tuesday. The summit, hosted in Dubai, UAE, saw Tinubu engage in multifaceted diplomatic activities.
During the conference, President Tinubu held crucial bilateral talks with prominent figures, including King Charles of England, the President of UAE, and leaders from various nations and international organizations. These discussions aimed to solidify commitments and collaborations on critical global issues.
A notable highlight was the signing of an accelerated performance agreement between Nigeria and Germany, focusing on enhancing Nigeria's electricity supply. Additionally, President Tinubu convened a high-level meeting on the Nigeria Carbon Market and the Electric Buses Rollout Programme, addressing key stakeholders and investors on the sidelines of COP28.
The President's departure on November 29, 2023, stirred controversy, particularly regarding the substantial number of Nigerian delegates registered for the summit. Critics questioned the government's allocation of 1,411 delegates, deeming it excessive. In response, the government clarified that it financially supported 422 individuals, shedding light on the perceived discrepancy.
