President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his stance on the emergency rule in Rivers State, emphasizing that it is a necessary measure to safeguard lives and protect critical infrastructure. The decision, he stated, comes amid rising political tensions that have threatened national economic stability, particularly the oil and gas sector.

Speaking on Thursday, Tinubu praised the National Assembly for approving the state of emergency, acknowledging their role in prioritizing security over political differences. He highlighted that Rivers had faced governance paralysis for over 15 months, leading to escalating security threats and economic disruption.

“The crisis reached a dangerous tipping point, endangering key federal assets and our broader economic reforms. This intervention is crucial to prevent further destabilization,” Tinubu stated.

The emergency rule, set to last six months, empowers a Sole Administrator to oversee governance in the state. The President expressed confidence that this temporary measure will restore order and foster reconciliation among political factions.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to support the initiative, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to stability, economic resilience, and national unity.
