President Bola Tinubu will be attending the 19th G20 Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from November 18-19, 2024. The summit, organized by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will bring together leaders from the world’s major economies to discuss pressing global issues. The focus this year will be on the theme "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet," with major discussions centered around poverty alleviation, hunger, energy transition, and sustainable development.

The President’s participation comes at the invitation of President Lula, who currently holds the G20 presidency. As part of his agenda, President Tinubu is expected to advocate for reform in global governance institutions, particularly calling for Nigeria’s permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council—a longstanding priority for the country’s foreign policy.

In addition to the summit discussions, Tinubu will hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders. These talks will focus on advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms, especially in sectors like agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.

Accompanying President Tinubu on this important mission will be a high-level Nigerian delegation, including Yusuf Tuggar (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Mukhtar Maiha (Minister of Livestock Development), Hannatu Musawa (Minister of Arts, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity), Aliyu Andullahi (Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security), and Mohammed Mohammed (Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency). The President is scheduled to return to Nigeria after the summit’s conclusion.
