President Bola Tinubu has yielded to the mounting demands to address the nation amidst the #EndBadGovernance protests that have gripped Nigeria for three days. The protests, sparked by economic hardships and high living costs, have seen demonstrators rallying in all 36 states and Abuja. Tinubu will address over 200 million Nigerians on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 7:00 am, as announced by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.

The broadcast will be available on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), with repeats at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm the same day. The protests, which began on Thursday, have seen opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi calling for Tinubu to speak to the nation.

Protesters have listed demands including the restoration of petrol subsidies, addressing food shortages, reducing unemployment, and curbing wasteful government spending. They also seek immediate reforms of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The protests have unfortunately led to violence in several states, including Kano, Borno, Yobe, and Kaduna, where hoodlums have taken advantage of the situation. Seven people have reportedly died, although the police deny any involvement in the deaths. Police have been using tear gas to disperse protesters, drawing condemnation from civil society organizations.

The nation eagerly awaits Tinubu's address, hoping for resolutions to the pressing issues highlighted by the protests.
