Ohanaeze Ndigbo claims President Tinubu's one-year performance surpasses Buhari's eight years, despite economic challenges. They commend Tinubu's approach to governance and urge interventions in Lagos and the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
As President Bola Tinubu marks one year in office, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has raised eyebrows with its assertion that Tinubu's performance surpasses that of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, during his eight-year tenure. Despite economic challenges like rising food inflation and the cost of goods, Ohanaeze maintains that Tinubu's administration shows promise.
In a statement released by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group's Secretary-General, Ohanaeze commended Tinubu's handling of inherited challenges such as a struggling economy, treasury looting, and infrastructural decay. Isiguzoro highlighted Tinubu's demonstration of political will in overcoming these obstacles, contrasting it with what they perceive as the shortcomings of Buhari's administration.
According to Isiguzoro, Tinubu's approach to governance differs significantly from Buhari's, particularly in its impact on the Southeast region. He accused the previous government of subjecting the Southeast to deliberate economic suppression and targeting, resulting in strife and insecurity. In contrast, Tinubu's administration has allegedly fostered hope and progress in the region through initiatives like road reconstruction and rehabilitation projects, aimed at stimulating economic activity and inclusivity.
Beyond praise for Tinubu's achievements, Ohanaeze also issued a series of appeals and recommendations. They urged Tinubu to intervene in halting property demolitions in Lagos, securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu, enhancing trade policies, and reopening the Calabar Seaport to drive further economic growth. Additionally, Ohanaeze called for the removal of underperforming ministers to ensure progress and efficiency.
