Former Vice Presidential Candidate and Labor Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, held a press conference on Wednesday, addressing the ongoing certificate controversy surrounding President Bola Tinubu's Chicago State University (CSU) credentials. During the conference, Obi expressed concerns that this lingering issue has further tarnished Nigeria's international reputation.
Obi emphasized that the global embarrassment Nigeria is currently facing could have been avoided. He lamented that the entire Chicago University matter, along with other lingering questions about Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu's identity, have painted a negative image of Nigerians internationally. Obi suggested that uninformed outsiders now view every Nigerian as a fraudster, certificate forger, or identity thief.
Obi called on President Tinubu to take personal responsibility for addressing these questions about his identity. He urged Tinubu to reintroduce himself to the nation and the world, providing clear information about his name, nationality, place of birth, parentage, educational history, and any changes of name.
Obi stressed that such personal matters should not be outsourced to surrogates, spokespeople, or lawyers, as they are fundamental to the function of the presidential office and a leader's responsibility to their nation. He concluded by urging Tinubu to perform this task urgently to lay to rest any lingering doubts about his true identity.
