Media personality Toke Makinwa recently shared insights into her personal life, revealing that if she had remarried, she believes she would have divorced again. Speaking on her podcast, Toke Moments, she reflected on turning 40, being single, and not having children—once a painful reality but now something she embraces
Makinwa, who was married to fitness expert Maje Ayida in 2014 before their marriage ended in divorce in 2017 due to infidelity, stated that life’s lessons are continuous. She admitted that societal expectations once made her feel inadequate, but she has learned to shift her perspective.
Acknowledging her past struggles, she now focuses on her accomplishments. “I am 40, single, and childless. I used to feel bad about it, but I have built an empire, am one of Africa’s most recognized voices, and have a loving family. Life is about perspective,” she said.
She further encouraged people to accept their realities and not succumb to societal pressures. “If I had remarried, I would likely be divorced again. You must sit with your truth—when you do, no one can shame you,” she added.
Makinwa’s candid revelation has sparked conversations online, with some applauding her honesty and self-awareness, while others debate the pressures society places on women regarding marriage and motherhood.
