Actress Toyin Abraham addresses backlash over Tinubu support, regrets public choice.
Actress Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi has responded to criticisms from Nigerians questioning her support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections. The renowned Nollywood star took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to address the backlash, revealing her disappointment with the current state of affairs in the country.
Recall that after Tinubu's victory, Toyin had shared a post about meeting with the then-incoming President, who allegedly shared his plans to tackle the nation's pressing issues. However, as Nigerians grapple with the ongoing strike and its effects, some have called on Toyin to divulge the ideas Tinubu supposedly shared with her.
Responding to the queries, Toyin stated that she was promised good governance and happiness for all Nigerians. However, she questioned why she should bear the brunt of the situation if things did not go as planned. When asked if she believed the Tinubu administration had failed Nigerians, Toyin clarified that she has since focused on her acting career, asserting that she is neither a politician nor part of the government.
The actress expressed regret for making her political choice public during the elections, suggesting that the backlash she has faced might have influenced her decision. Toyin also lashed out at trolls who resorted to cursing her, further highlighting the heated debates surrounding her political allegiance.
