A container-laden truck crashed into the height barrier at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, Lagos, causing heavy traffic disruptions. The Lagos State Government advised motorists to use alternative routes as LASTMA and LASEMA teams worked to clear the scene and restore traffic flow. Commuters are urged to remain calm and patient.
Motorists in Lagos have been advised to seek alternative routes after a container-laden truck crashed at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge on Tuesday evening, causing major traffic disruption. The truck, carrying a 40-foot container, struck the steel height restriction barrier at the bridge entrance near Admiralty Road, damaging the structure and blocking access to the bridge.
The impact left the height barrier wedged between the container and the truck’s front cabin, severely restricting vehicle movement. In response, officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) quickly mobilized to manage the scene and redirect traffic.
By Wednesday morning, LASTMA had rerouted traffic towards the Lekki Phase 1 tollgate corridor to ease congestion. Meanwhile, Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs for LASTMA, appealed for calm, urging motorists already caught in the gridlock to remain patient and drive carefully. He also encouraged commuters to use alternative routes like Ikoyi’s Kingsway Road to avoid delays.
Authorities continue to work on clearing the obstruction and restoring normal traffic flow as quickly as possible. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about enforcement of bridge access restrictions and road safety measures across Lagos.
