A tragic incident unfolded at Ekoli Creek in Yenagoa, where a 200-level Chemical Engineering student from the Federal University, Otuoke, drowned after a risky N300 bet. The student, whose identity remains undisclosed, wagered that he could swim across the creek. However, as he attempted the challenge, he submerged and never resurfaced.

Eyewitnesses, including fellow students, confirmed the ill-fated bet, stating that contributions were pooled to raise the stake. Efforts to recover the body have so far been unsuccessful. The university's Public Relations Officer, Ms. Mercy Ekott, did not respond to inquiries, while Bayelsa police spokesman, Mr. Musa Mohammed, stated he had not been briefed on the incident.
