Tragedy struck in Ondo State on Saturday as a fatal collision between two commercial buses resulted in a devastating fire, killing 30 passengers. The accident occurred at the Onipetesi axis of the Ore-Lagos Expressway in Odigbo Local Government Area.
According to eyewitness reports, the crash was caused by excessive speeding, with one of the vehicles allegedly driving against traffic. The impact led to both buses bursting into flames, leaving 28 victims burnt beyond recognition. Two other survivors, rescued with severe injuries, succumbed before reaching the hospital, while two more remain in critical condition.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander for Ondo State, Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the incident and attributed it to reckless driving. He urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and avoid dangerous road practices to prevent further loss of lives.
