A tragic incident has struck the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) community, as a 300-level Microbiology student, Hameedah Sanni, reportedly committed suicide at the age of 20 by consuming the poisonous substance known as Sniper.
The circumstances surrounding Hameedah's suicide are complex. Some sources claim that she was driven to this tragic act due to constant harassment from online loan apps as a result of her outstanding debts. In contrast, other reports suggest that she was deceived and scammed by an online lover, incurring a loss exceeding N500,000.
According to accounts from within her hall of residence, Hameedah had disclosed her intentions of suicide to friends, an alarming statement she had previously shared with her parents. Her friends made desperate attempts to deter her from taking such a drastic step.
Roommates of the late student discovered her in great pain on her bed early one Monday. They swiftly sought medical assistance, but upon reaching the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Hameedah was pronounced "brought in dead."
The police are in the process of collecting information about this heartbreaking incident. UNILORIN mourns the loss of one of its students, while many grapple with the complexities surrounding her untimely death
