Boko Haram insurgents reportedly ambushed a military convoy in the Lake Chad area of Borno State on Saturday, resulting in the death of an army lieutenant and two vigilante members.
The incident occurred following the military's recent takeover of the Boko Haram enclave in Krenowa, Marte LGA, to advance their fight against the terrorist group. Sources indicate that the soldiers, part of the 50 Task Force Brigade, faced heavy bombardment at Krenowa, forcing a withdrawal and leaving 12 out of 15 deployed motorbikes behind.
The attack, which took place around 1 am, damaged an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) tank, and the corpse of the slain officer, along with a member of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) and a vigilante member, could not be immediately recovered due to the insurgents' intense firepower. Efforts to reach the military high command for a response have been unsuccessful.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the military in combating Boko Haram in the region
