In a somber incident, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the apparent suicide of an 80-year-old man in the Imota area. The Command's public relations officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, verified the heartbreaking event on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Isiaka Ayinde, was found hanging in the kitchen by his landlord, Mr Mustapha, who reported the incident to the Imota Police Division around 12:26 a.m. on Friday. Mustapha detailed that he rushed to Ayinde's house on Watchtower Street, Araromi, Imota, after hearing the children's distress calls.
The scene was documented by DCB personnel from Imota Division, with the family expressing a preference for an immediate burial over mortuary arrangements, citing both age and religious beliefs.
This tragic incident raises questions about mental health in the elderly and the challenges faced by individuals in their later years.
