A tragic boat accident occurred in the Benue River, claiming over 100 lives. The passengers, including traders, women, and children, were en route to Binnari town in Karim-Lamido local government area.
The ill-fated boat capsized 40 minutes after departing from the Mayoreneyo local jetty, where it had previously conveyed passengers from Binnari to Mayoreneyo.
Local divers have recovered only two bodies, and no passengers had life jackets when the incident occurred. Acting chairman of inland water transporters in Taraba state reported about 15 bodies were found near the scene. Police authorities are yet to receive an official report on the incident. .
