A deadly bus crash on the Owo-Ikare highway in Ondo State resulted in 13 deaths after a tyre burst caused one bus to collide with another. One survivor was rescued with serious injuries, and authorities are investigating the cause of the fiery crash.
A tragic accident on Saturday morning along the Owo-Ikare highway in Ondo State claimed the lives of 13 individuals. The crash occurred around 10:14 am, near Abule Panu and Ose Bridge, and involved a head-on collision between two buses.
Reports indicate a tyre burst on one bus, traveling from the Ikare direction, causing it to lose control and collide with an oncoming bus carrying fabrics. The force of the impact caused both buses to catch fire. Emergency responders, including teams from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), police, and fire service, were quickly on the scene to assist. While 13 passengers perished on the spot, one survivor with severe injuries was rescued and transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo for treatment.
The deceased were also taken to the same hospital’s morgue. FRSC Sector Commander Ibitoye Samuel confirmed the incident and urged continued vigilance regarding road safety. The investigation into the cause of the crash, which appears to have been triggered by the tyre burst, is ongoing.
