The explosion reportedly began at a gas refilling shop where a technician was repairing a faulty cylinder. The cylinder burst, triggering a chain reaction of explosions that engulfed the shop and damaged nearby buildings. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as residents fled, while firefighters worked tirelessly to control the blaze.
A relative of one victim shared that his family, including a couple and their two children, suffered injuries while visiting the shop. Another family member was also caught in the blast while passing by. The expenses for their treatments have already surpassed ₦500,000.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that 18 individuals are receiving treatment and that an investigation is underway.
