The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the Super Eagles' squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda. This will be the first test for the newly appointed coach, Bruno Labbadia, a seasoned Italian-German tactician.
The squad features key players like Captain William Troost-Ekong, Olaoluwa Aina, Victor Osimhen, and Taiwo Awoniyi, all of whom are returning from injuries. Troost-Ekong, who was named Man of the Competition at the previous AFCON, missed the recent FIFA World Cup qualifiers but is now back to strengthen the team. Victor Osimhen, Africa’s reigning Player of the Year, also makes his return.
The list comprises three goalkeepers, seven defenders, six midfielders, and seven forwards, ensuring a balanced team ready for the challenges ahead. Notable inclusions are AFCON 2023 star goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Bendel Insurance’s Amas Obasogie, and South Africa-based defender Olisa Ndah.
Nigeria is set to face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on September 7th, followed by a match against Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on September 10th.
All selected players are expected to report to the camp in Uyo by September 2nd, as the team prepares for these crucial fixtures under Labbadia’s leadership.
