A container truck accident on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway caused massive gridlock on April 18, 2025. Multiple vehicle collisions occurred, stretching traffic back to the Otedola Bridge. LASTMA and emergency responders are managing recovery efforts and urging drivers to remain patient as operations continue.

A serious accident involving a container-loaded truck caused heavy traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway early Friday morning, April 18, 2025. The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. on the Kara Bridge section of the expressway and resulted in multiple vehicle collisions.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the truck lost control and crashed, triggering a chain reaction involving several cars. The resulting congestion extended to the Otedola Bridge area, leaving commuters stranded in bumper-to-bumper traffic during peak morning hours.

Emergency teams from LASTMA and other agencies were swiftly deployed to the scene. Two lanes were eventually cleared to allow limited movement toward the OPIC axis, while efforts to remove the truck and other affected vehicles continued throughout the morning.

“Some of the impacted vehicles have been towed away, and two lanes are now accessible,” LASTMA stated. “Our officials are still working to recover the container truck and assist any victims.”

Photos from the scene showed extensive traffic stretching several kilometers, with cars, buses, and trucks at a standstill.

Motorists were urged to remain calm and patient as clearance operations progressed. LASTMA emphasized that the situation was under control but warned that delays would persist until the road was fully cleared.

The agency also thanked drivers for their cooperation and reiterated its commitment to restoring normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.
