A truck driver has recounted the brutal mob attack in Uromi, Edo State, where 16 Kano-bound passengers were killed. The victims, suspected hunters, were accused of being kidnappers by vigilantes. The driver insists the attack wasn’t tribal but a case of wrongful mob justice. Nigerians demand an investigation.

A truck driver has shared his harrowing experience after a mob attack in Uromi, Edo State, left 16 passengers dead. The victims, reportedly hunters traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano for Eid-el-Fitr, were wrongly accused of being kidnappers by a vigilante group.

The driver explained that he initially refused to give them a ride but later changed his mind, believing they were harmless travelers. However, when they arrived in Uromi, the vigilantes stopped the truck, questioned his cargo, and became suspicious upon seeing the hunters' weapons and dogs.

Despite presenting his waybill, the vigilante commander ordered the passengers out of the truck. The crowd, already on edge, turned violent, attacking the travelers after the commander labeled them as criminals. The driver and two others were handcuffed and taken to a police station, only to return and find 16 people brutally killed.

The driver dismissed suggestions that the attack was tribal, insisting it was entirely the vigilantes’ fault. The gruesome incident has sparked national outrage, with many calling for an investigation and justice for the victims.
