Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur, currently ranked seventh in women's singles, announced her decision to donate a portion of her prize money from the ongoing Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Finals to aid Palestinians affected by the conflict in Gaza.
Jabeur, emotionally discussing the situation after her first win in Cancun, expressed her distress at the ongoing crisis, citing the heartbreaking images of children and babies suffering. The 29-year-old clarified that her donation is a humanitarian gesture rather than a political statement.
Despite her tennis success, Jabeur emphasized that victories on the court pale in comparison to the gravity of the situation in Gaza, where Israeli airstrikes have claimed over 9,500 lives, including many children and women.
Jabeur, known for speaking out on social issues, admitted feeling helpless and expressed a longing for peace and restored humanity. She acknowledged the limited impact of her donation but revealed plans to establish a foundation soon, aspiring to contribute positively to various situations and help those in need beyond her tennis career.
