Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has attributed the recent prison break at the Federal Correctional Centre in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, to negligence by some correctional officers. Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, he clarified that the escape was an "insider job" rather than an external attack, as no security walls were breached.

The minister confirmed that of the 12 inmates who escaped, seven have been re-arrested, thanks to advanced biometric tracking and collaboration with security agencies. He assured the public that a full investigation is underway to determine the level of officer involvement and ensure accountability. Meanwhile, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has instructed security agencies to strengthen measures to prevent future breaches and urged residents to remain calm.
