South African singer Tyla has been crowned World Artiste of the Year at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards, outshining Nigerian heavyweights Tems and Burna Boy. The 23-year-old, famed for her global hit Water, became the first-ever recipient of this new category at the prestigious awards held in Los Angeles on March 17, 2025.

Tyla’s win marks a significant milestone for African music on the global stage, as she surpassed fellow nominees Central Cee and YG Marley.
