U.S. authorities are offering a $25,000 reward for information on Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, a Nigerian fugitive accused of first-degree murder and severe child abuse. Wanted since 2017, Olawusi allegedly fled to Nigeria after his infant son's death. Authorities urge anyone with knowledge of his location to come forward.

U.S. law enforcement has issued a $25,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, a 48-year-old Nigerian man facing severe criminal charges in an infant abuse case. Olawusi is accused of first-degree murder and inflicting serious injuries on his 3-month-old son in April 2017 in Providence, Rhode Island. Emergency responders found the infant with severe injuries, including multiple fractures, and struggling to breathe. Though the baby was hospitalized and put on life support, he ultimately passed away six months later.

Olawusi, initially charged with child abuse, was released after an arrest but fled soon after. Authorities later upgraded his charges to include murder following the infant’s death in October 2017. U.S. Marshals discovered Olawusi had traveled to Nigeria via JFK International Airport, and they suspect he may be in hiding with the help of relatives.

The U.S. Marshals Service urges the public to come forward with any knowledge of Olawusi’s location, noting he could pose a danger to other children. Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Don Freeman expressed concern about Olawusi’s potential whereabouts and emphasized the urgency of public assistance in the search.

Olawusi, also known by the alias Olekun Olawusi, is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing approximately 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
