James Akinwande, a UK-based Nigerian, replaced shoes and a watch allegedly stolen from Kemi Badenoch’s brother by Nigerian police. His symbolic act, aimed at countering Badenoch’s criticism of Nigeria, has sparked social media discussions and highlighted her contentious relationship with her homeland.
James Akinwande, a Nigerian living in the UK, has responded to Kemi Badenoch’s claims about alleged misconduct by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF). Badenoch, a leader of the UK Conservative Party, recently recounted how Nigerian police officers allegedly stole her brother’s shoes and wristwatch.
In reaction, Akinwande shared a video of himself purchasing new shoes and a wristwatch in the UK as replacements for the items allegedly taken. He delivered the items to the Conservative Party headquarters, leaving them with security personnel for Badenoch.
Akinwande’s act was accompanied by a note that read: “On behalf of every proud Nigerian hurt by those unfounded remarks about the Nigerian Police, we ‘buy back’ the stolen shoes and watch. I hope they fit.”
The gesture has sparked significant attention on social media, with many Nigerians sharing mixed reactions. While some praised Akinwande’s patriotic response, others questioned Badenoch’s consistent criticism of Nigeria.
Akinwande, a legal representative and manager to Nigerian entertainers, has previously worked with celebrities such as AY Makun and Kenny Blaq.
