A Nigerian man, Timilehin Olatunji, received a 10-year UK prison sentence for a violent assault on a woman in Nottingham. The victim’s bravery in recording the attack provided key evidence. Olatunji’s conviction highlights justice for gender-based violence and includes lifelong registration as a sex offender and deportation after sentencing.

A 35-year-old Nigerian man, Timilehin Olatunji, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the United Kingdom for a violent assault on a woman. The attack, which occurred in Nottingham in September 2024, involved multiple offenses and was described as "cruel and degrading" by the presiding judge.

The victim, displaying exceptional courage, recorded the assault using her mobile phone, providing critical evidence that led to Olatunji’s swift arrest and conviction. He pleaded guilty to three counts of assault, avoiding a trial and sparing the victim further trauma.

In addition to his prison sentence, Olatunji was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and subjected to an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim. The court also noted that Olatunji, a community figure and churchgoer, had betrayed his public image with actions deemed "beyond rational understanding."

Authorities commended the victim’s bravery, acknowledging the emotional toll of the case. Detective Constable Emily Bucklow praised her for coming forward and providing evidence, which was instrumental in securing justice.

The case has drawn attention to the importance of reporting such crimes and the support available for victims. Olatunji, who arrived in the UK in 2019, faces deportation after serving two-thirds of his sentence.
