A confrontation between a lecturer and a student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has sparked controversy. The incident, which was caught on video, involved a third-year History student, Goddy Precious, and Dr. Chukwudi Okoye of the Theatre Arts Department.

Precious was recording a TikTok video in a hallway when Dr. Okoye reportedly tapped her shoulder to pass by. This led to a heated altercation, during which Precious allegedly grabbed the lecturer’s shirt, dragged him, and even bit him. Viral footage shows the lecturer maintaining his composure throughout the ordeal.

The university has since launched an investigation. According to UNIZIK spokesperson Njelita Louis, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu has vowed to ensure a fair and unbiased inquiry, with appropriate sanctions for anyone found guilty.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with divided opinions on who was at fault. While some users defended the student’s actions, others criticized her for assaulting a lecturer.

The university’s statement reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and justice, urging students and the public to remain patient as the investigation unfolds. UNIZIK emphasized that it upholds high moral standards and would not tolerate any form of misconduct.

The university’s final verdict on the matter will likely set a precedent for handling such disputes in the future.
