Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has expelled student Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious for biting a lecturer during a clash over a TikTok video. The university cited gross misconduct and enforced immediate expulsion. The viral incident has sparked debates on student behavior and the impact of social media on academic discipline.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, has expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for assaulting a lecturer during a dispute over a TikTok recording. The university's decision, outlined in an official expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025, followed recommendations from the Student Disciplinary Committee.
The incident, which went viral online, involved Precious attacking Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies. Reports indicate that the altercation began when Dr. Okoye confronted the student over her video recording on campus, leading to a physical confrontation where she bit him. The footage of the clash sparked widespread debate on social media, with many calling for disciplinary action.
In response, UNIZIK authorities declared Precious’ actions a gross violation of student regulations. The letter, signed by Acting Registrar Mr. Victor I. Modebelu, emphasized that the expulsion was effective immediately, requiring her to vacate the university premises and return all school property.
The university’s firm stance has triggered mixed reactions, with some supporting the decision as necessary for maintaining discipline, while others argue it highlights a broader issue of social media influence on student behavior.
