In a recent interview with Channels Television, popular cinematographer Buari Olalekan Oluwasegun, widely known as Unlimited L.A, shared insights into the infusion of foreign cultures and nudity in Nigerian music videos. Unlimited L.A attributed this trend to artists responding to consumer demands and preferences.
According to him, some artists specifically request directors to incorporate certain cultures or nudity in their videos based on the target audience, especially those in the U.S., Europe, or Africa.
He acknowledged the influence of Nigerians in the diaspora, stating that the need to connect with a diverse audience prompts the inclusion of various cultures. While acknowledging that this may be perceived as eroding cultural respect and decency, Unlimited L.A emphasized that it is a strategic move to appeal to a broader viewership.
Additionally, he highlighted the significant progress made in the Nigerian cinematography industry, noting the shift from shooting most music videos abroad to a current trend where many Afrobeats videos are filmed within Nigeria.
