A petrol tanker explosion in Gurara LGA, Niger State, has left 98 dead and 69 injured. The tragedy occurred when residents were scooping petrol after two tankers collided. This incident follows a similar explosion in Delta State, prompting President Bola Tinubu to launch a public safety campaign.

A tragic petrol tanker explosion in Gurara Local Government Area (LGA), Niger State, has claimed at least 98 lives and left 69 others injured. The explosion occurred when one tanker crashed, and a second tanker was brought in to transfer the fuel. Eyewitness reports indicated that many residents were scooping petrol when the blast took place, exacerbating the disaster.

In the aftermath, officials from the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and Gurara LGA buried 80 of the victims in a mass grave at Dikko Primary Healthcare Centre. The bodies of the remaining victims were retrieved by their families for proper burial. This incident follows a similar explosion earlier this month in Delta State, further highlighting the dangers associated with petrol tanker crashes. In response, President Bola Tinubu has ordered a national campaign led by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to educate the public on the risks of scooping fuel from fallen tankers.
