According to the FCT Police Command, the tragic incident occurred when a trailer lost control and crashed into a stationary vehicle stuck in traffic, igniting a massive fire that quickly engulfed multiple cars. The blaze caused chaos as bystanders and motorists scrambled for safety, while emergency responders battled the raging inferno.
Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed that six victims were rescued from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital but were later pronounced dead. Their remains have been deposited at Karu General Hospital Morgue.
Authorities, including the fire service and security agencies, managed to contain the fire and restore normal traffic flow. The police have launched a full investigation into the cause of the disaster and assured the public of efforts to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The FCT Police Command extended condolences to the victims' families, urging residents to remain cautious on the roads.
